Apolemichthys xanthotis - We've added an exciting new Apolemichthys genus angelfish to our catalog that is seldom seen in captivity - the Red Sea Angelfish aka Yellow Eared Angelfish. It is related to the Kingi, Goldflake, and Flagfin Angelfish. Thanks to the captive breeding efforts of our friends at Poma Labs, Biota is excited to be able to offer Red Sea Angelfish bred and raised right here in the United States.

These captive bred Red Sea Angelfish are well conditioned and super hardy, even eating easy-to-feed prepared foods like Otohime C1 pellets. It's very important for long term health to offer a wide variety of foods to these omnivores that includes angelfish specific foods containing sponge, small pellets, frozen mysis, Spirunlina brine shrimp, and seaweed. Young fish should be fed an average of 3 - 5x a day.

Juveniles are yellow and black, but they go through a fascinating color transition. As adults, they have a white body with contrasting jet black face and border with a yellow tail and bright yellow spot on the side of the face.

This species is somewhat shy but semi-aggressive as an adult and reef safe with caution like others in the Apolemichthys genus. The maximum adult size is 8"; and the minimum aquarium size is 150 gallons for adults. It's imperative to use an acclimation box when introducing these young fish to a tank with established fish. Angelfish do best in a mature aquarium with large areas for grazing.

These fish can not be delivered on Fridays. During checkout, please choose on the calendar a delivery date on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday only.
