What is a Smart Button?
Smart Button, is a programmable button and a cheap IoT device. The smart button can be programmed to call or alert someone, start or stop something, order services, or even provide feedback. Calling an Uber, ordering a refill of coke cans, opening a smart gate/shutter, ordering your favourite pizza all can be done with a single click using these buttons.
Typically, these buttons have three type of actions: single-click, double-click and press-and-hold. Each type of action can be set to perform a different action, and also multiple actions. They don't need any wiring since they communicate with your Wi-Fi network or nearby Bluetooth devices to communicate the actions the cloud.
Who makes it and how much does it cost?
AWS IoT Button from Amazon, Flic, bttn, goButton, MESH and SmartThings are some of the popular brands available online.
Typically, these buttons cost about $20 - $50 depending on the brand and battery life.
Using Smart Buttons for One-Touch Facility Management
eFACiLiTY® is now fully integrated with Smart IOT (Internet of Things) Buttons for One-touch Facility Management. eFACiLiTY® allows these buttons to be configured for raising support requests, report problems, create breakdown work orders / cleaning orders, raise consumables / inventory replenishments, quick booking of meeting rooms etc., all with just “One-Touch”. eFACiLiTY® also allows these buttons to be configured to operate all equipment connected to the Building Management Systems (BMS/BAS) for switching on a individual or a set of lights, air-conditioners etc., switching on sprinkler systems, pumping operation and so on.
The Smart IoT Buttons are installed at our eFACiLiTY® Building and has been working seamlessly for all the above facility management operations and are also integrated with the Building Automation System (BMS/BAS) for controlling lights, air conditioners, motors, sprinklers and various other equipment in our facility.
There are new IoT devices being launched in the market regularly like leak detectors, gas sensors etc. and these devices can also be easily integrated with eFACiLiTY® for creating breakdown work orders that get automatically assigned to the technicians the moment any issue is detected and monitoring automatically with strict SLAs by the software till the issue is completely resolved.
